Buttermilk Biscuits with
Chocolate GravyBiscuits:
2 ½ cups flour, separated
1 pkg. yeast
1 ½ tsp baking powder
¼ tsp baking soda
1 tsp sugar
½ cup shortening, cold
1 cup buttermilk
In a large bowl, combine 2 cups flour, baking powder, baking
soda and sugar. Cut in shortening with two knives. Mix in buttermilk.
Place about ½ cup flour on work surface to knead dough with until
it is smooth and pliable. Roll the dough out to ½ inch in thickness. Cut
with biscuit cutter and place on cookie sheet. Set aside.
Chocolate Gravy:
2 tbsp cocoa
1 ½ cups sugar
2 tbsp flour
1 tsp vanilla
3 cups milk
In a medium saucepan, combine ingredients. Cook over medium heat.
Once it starts to boil, continue cooking for 10 minutes. Bake biscuits
at 450° F for 10 minutes while chocolate gravy is cooking. Pour chocolate
gravy over hot biscuits.
